Cosmetic procedures and Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery back

Reconstructive surgeries at the ECI networked hospitals utilize some of the most advanced techniques and sophisticated knowledge base. Some corrections routinely performed include hair restoration, rhinoplasty (reshaping or recontouring of the nose), face lift, cosmetic eyelid surgery, brow lift, sub-metal lumpectomy for double chin, dermabrasions (sanding of the face) otoplasty for protruding ears, chin and cheek enlargement, lip reductions, an array of breast reconstructive surgeries and liposuction.

What is the difference between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery?

Cosmetic surgeries are intended to reshape normal structures of the body to improve your appearance thereby advancing your confidence and self-esteem. Reconstructive surgical procedures are designed to treat abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. These are generally performed to improve the functions of certain body parts but can also help improve your appearance.

Is there a right age to undergo plastic surgery?

This depends on the procedure and is determined on an individual basis. Certain reconstructive surgeries can be performed on patients of all ages while certain procedures are recommended for more mature patients. Consult with your plastic surgeon to determine if you are a qualified candidate for the procedure you are considering.

Is Botox dangerous?

Even though Botox is a formulation of botulinum toxin type A, it is sterilized and purified for medical applications. Since Botox treatments are not surgical procedure, the risks and possible complications are infrequent or minimal. The most common reported side-effects are headaches, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary drooping of eyelids and nausea.

What is Botox?

Botox is a formulation of botulinum toxin type A, which is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When used as an injectable form of sterile, purified botulinum toxin for medicinal purposes, small doses of the toxin are injected into the affected muscles and block the release of the chemical Acetylcholine, which signals the muscle to contract. The toxin thus paralyzes or weakens the injected muscle. As a result, it prevents new wrinkles from forming and improves the appearance of frown lines.

When can I go back to work after my cosmetic procedure?

The recovery period depends upon the procedure performed and it varies from person to person. For some cosmetic procedures, individuals can go back work within a couple of days while some procedures can take a week or more for individuals to recover.

Are the scars visible?

This depends upon the procedure that is performed. For some procedures such as breast augmentation the doctor places the incisions in areas where the resulting scars are not so visible. Some incisions may not result into scarring at all. Some scars become light and nearly invisible as they heal.

How many procedures can I have at the same time?

Multiple procedures can be done at the same time and it would be upon your surgeon’s discretion.
